The Society of Jesus Mary Joseph, India celebrates the triple jubilee in 2012: 190 Years of foundation- Society of JMJ, the Netherlands, Golden Jubilee of the Autonomous- Indian Province and Silver Jubilee of Guntur, Hyderabad and Bangalore provinces. The fourth province – Raipur has been born in the year 2009 which comprises the north region of India- bifurcated from Hyderabad Province.
The Society has 2,287 members working in various countries such as Netherlands, Indonesia, Africa, Rome and India. The Charism of the society is “Ever Adaptable Apostolic Availability”.
According to the needs of the time and places, the society takes up various apostolates. The members devote themselves to medical, Educational, Pastoral and social works.
A Century ago, the society of JMJ that made a humble beginning with just seven Dutch Sisters, today has four provinces in India with 764 members and 42 novices. The sisters belong to 90 communities all over the country, serving in 130 institutions like schools, college of nursing, health centers, social work centres for development of women and tribals, community colleges for dropouts, homes for the aged, handicapped, integrated school for the blind and lepers.
The JMJ Society in India is ever ready and open to the signs of the times to spread the kingdom of God in the Indian Society.
